Today we’re talking with Vincent Di, who holds the position of Editorial Director at our Kraków office. Vincent joined us from Beijing, and today he shared some insights about his work and future plans. Enjoy the short interview below!
What does the role of an Editorial Director involve? Can you tell us about your key responsibilities?
“As the Editorial Director of MDPI’s Kraków office, my role is to support the editorial team in ensuring a smooth and high-quality publication process. I work closely with colleagues and researchers to keep everything running efficiently, while upholding MDPI’s core values, such as #OpenAccess and academic excellence. It’s a team effort, and I’m fortunate to work with so many talented and dedicated people.”
Was moving to Poland a difficult decision for you?
“Moving to Poland was definitely a big decision, but not a difficult one. I saw it as a unique opportunity for both professional and personal growth, and a chance to contribute to MDPI’s global vision. Of course, leaving my home country and adapting to a new environment came with challenges, but the opportunity to be part of such a great team made it all worthwhile.”
What do you think of Polish culture? Could you share the strangest or most surprising thing you’ve come across while living in Poland? 😀
“Absolutely! Polish culture is rich, and the people are incredibly warm and welcoming. One thing that really surprised me is the accessibility of train stations—not just in Poland, but across much of Europe. It’s fascinating that the stations are open to everyone, with no gates or ticket barriers, which gives a sense of freedom and efficiency. I really enjoy how smoothly everything connects here. It’s a big contrast compared to China.”
Are you currently involved in or planning to engage in any projects related to the development of the Kraków office?
“Yes, I’m actively involved in initiatives aimed at strengthening the Kraków office. We’re working on expanding our editorial team to better support the peer-review process of scientific articles. Additionally, we’re enhancing the role of our Journal Relations Specialists, who focus on engaging with researchers and building strong ties within the academic community. These efforts are supported by staff promotions, training programs, and closer collaboration with local institutions. I’m excited about how these changes align with MDPI’s mission to support researchers and promote open access publishing worldwide.”
A big thank-you to Wenlong Di for this short interview—we wish you continued success!
